Almost two years ago, I started noticing occasional posts about Airway Dentistry and Myofunctional Therapy popping up on my feed every now and then .. and soon enough it started awakening my curiosity-what does this have to do with dentistry? Could I, as a dentist, really help someone breathe better? What exactly is the connection between oral development and airway health? And why was this topic stirring so much debate in the orthodontic world? Was this just a passing trend? Or were we being asked to rethink decades of conventional approaches?

The more I explored, the more I realized how vast and complex this field is. It took me a few months of reading, questioning, and searching to start finding the right resources. And it was along this journey that I came across Breathe, Sleep, Thrive by Dr. Shereen Lim — a pioneer in dental sleep medicine in Australia. It was the fastest I’d ever finished a book. It connected the dots between airway health and dentistry in a way that completely shifted my perspective.

And so, I reached out to Dr. Shereen on Instagram, and she kindly replied, answering my questions and encouraging me to explore further. Her generosity and guidance gave me the nudge I needed to go deeper.

The photo above was taken just a few weeks ago, during a truly special moment — I had the honor of meeting Dr. Shereen Lim in person at her practice in Perth. Despite never having met me before, she warmly welcomed me into her clinic and graciously offered a glimpse into her clinical day.

I’ll always be grateful for your generosity, kindness, and openness, Dr. Shereen — thank you for sharing your passion and knowledge with the world.
